Ambassador John Ambassador Ellsworth I. A. John became a foreign Service Officer in 1992 when he was appointed as Counsellor in the Embassy to the United States of America. He served for four years in that capacity before moving to the Organisation of American States where he worked in the budget department and InterAmerican Agency for Cooperation and Development coordinating technical cooperation projects for the Caribbean. In 2001, he became the Ambassador to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the OAS for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 2007, he returned to St. Vincent and the Grenadines as Director of the newly established Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister. In that capacity, he served as Ambassaor to both CARICOM and the OECS and as St. Vincent and the Grenadines' Commissioner to the OECS. In October 2016, he was appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba. Among his many accomplishments as a diplomat were the coordination of the Conference on the Caribbean in Washington DC in 2007 and the year long Vincy homecoming celebration in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 2009.

Before becoming a diplomat, Ambassaor John was a Trade Unionist serving as General Secretary of the Public Service Union in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and in various capacities including Asistant Director in the Research and Negotiation Department of the 120,000 strong Public Service Trade Union, District Council 37 in New York City.
